Gary Bernstein Information:

The link used to lead to Gary's wonderful site. I can no longer find a web presence for Gary's remarkable, insightful portraits. That rather intense looking face belongs to one of the most knowledge photographers I have ever met. A true teacher. There maybe many reasons for his disappearance from the web. But he seems to be gone. What follows is some background info. A least we can learn from and enjoy his books.

Over the years he has written columns and articles for Shutterbug, Petersen's Photographic, Professional Photographer and other magazines.
  Gary Bernstein Circa 1996

Gary's images have appeared in almost every major magazine, usually the cover. They have enhanced publications such as Modern Photography, Popular Photography, Professional Photographer, Petersen's Photographic, Playgirl, Good Housekeeping, Ladies Home Journal, Paris Match, People and TV Guide. ZOOM magazine has devoted special layouts in their pages to feature his work.

Bernstein has photographed hundreds of celebrities worldwide, Johnny Carson, Joan Collins, Farrah Fawcett, Leeza Gibbons, Jay Leno, Sophia Loren, Paul Newman, Kenny Rogers, William Shatner, Cybill Shepherd, Danielle Steele, Elizabeth Taylor, Ted Turner, Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood to name just a few.

His commercial clients have included ABC, American Express, Avon, Bill Blass, Bogen, BVD, Dupont, Ford, Max Factor, Hasselblad, Nabisco, Pierre Cardin, Revlon, Sasson, and Swatch.

Kay York graces the cover   In 1978, Gary collaborated with Bernie Taupin (lyricist for Elton John) to co-author Burning Cold, an incredible book featuring images of Kay Sutton York.

Bernstein also authored other best-selling books for HP Books and Price, Stern, Sloan. In 1994, Woodford Publishing released Portrait Hollywood, a hardbound compendium detailing over 3 decades of his work. In the fall of 1997, Diamar Interactive published the first of three Gary Bernstein CD ROM's, Secrets of Professional Photography. In the summer of 1998, Marathon Press published Bernstein's largest instructional book to date, The Glamorous Word of People Photography.

In 1989, Bernstein was awarded an honorary Master of Science by Brook's Institute. The Smithsonian Institute honored him with the "Master of Contemporary Photography". Gary's images have also been displayed by the Rockefeller Center's Nikon Gallery in New York City. He has also received numerous awards from various Advertising Festivals.

I have read that Gary now divides his time between commercial photography assignments and fine portraiture. The last I heard Gary was living on the West Coast with his wife and children.

All the best!
